One of the world's leading schools, Geelong Grammar is an Anglican coeducational school consisting of five schools on four campuses offering a wide range of day and boarding options, within city, coastal and country settings. Five distinctive learning environments operate on four diverse campuses educating girls and boys from kindergarten to Year 12. The school's strength lies in a history of educational innovation combined with the continuing belief in the traditions of a broad liberal education.
Our comprehensive and challenging programmes aim to create independent, confident learners; young men and women of integrity and compassion who will contribute purposefully to an increasingly interdependent world. Our students are willing to commit themselves to achieving their personal goals and they contribute to the relaxed and busy atmosphere of the School. Geelong Grammar has a history of educating leaders in many areas of endeavour
Pastoral care is the essence of Geelong Grammar School's work with children. It is neither a programme or a strategy, but a belief that nourishes everything that we do.
Geelong Grammar's modern boarding model extends young people's life skills and our students come from all over Australia and around the world. They learn about living and sharing with others while developing their own intellectual, social and emotional independence.
The key to a good school, in fact any community, is the existence of good relationships. At Geelong Grammar School, pastoral care is not simply left to the school counsellors. As relationships exist between students, teachers, support staff, house staff, maintenance staff and the many other groups that form the GGS community, each of these groups contribute to pastoral care.
At GGS we are proud of our reputation as a school that is caring, where a variety of personalities can grow and feel free to express themselves, without fear of ridicule and without detriment to others. This means that every child is visible to us, that we are prepared to speak and listen, to ask and to understand. Understanding and meeting the individual needs of each child is a vital aspect of the GGS pastoral care philosophy.
The School aspires for its students:
- to have an enthusiasm for learning
- to develop a broad and strong base of knowledge and skills
- to think and act with competence, objectivity and creativity
- to, through their experience of living in a learning community, show respect and sensitivity to others
- to show a capacity to lead, to share and to co-operate with others
- to accept responsibility and discipline
- to find reward in participating, doing one's best and establishing life long friendships.
How our young women and men discover the future depends upon the humanity of all of the lessons we bring to them. Everything we do at Geelong Grammar School counts.
