St Paul's has more students doing the holistic, values-laden, rigorously academic International Baccalaureate (IB) courses than any other school in Australia. It is the first school in NSW to offer the IB in its three phases - the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and the Diploma Programme. There are 550 students doing the PYP, 500 doing the MYP and 120 doing the Diploma. The IB Diploma Programme has been offered at the school since 1992 and the educational advantages have been so impressive that the school decided in 2002 to offer the IB throughout all years of study.

There are more students studying Mandarin Chinese at St Paul’s than any other school in Australia. It was first introduced to the school in 1993 and became a compulsory subject from Kindergarten to Year 7 and an optional language course from Year 8 to Year 12. Given the globalised environment of the 21st century and the close relationship developing between China and Australia, such an emphasis is thought to be timely.

St Paul’s has a distinctive approach to gifted education and learning difficulty support. A combination of comprehensive programs, specifically qualified staff, the number of staff members involved and the degree of specialisation of staff members enables the school to support specialized learning needs.

St Paul’s integrates faith and learning. Its Christian world view permeates and engages with IB and NSW Board course programs. The school’s challenge is to reflect the fact that Christianity is an all-of-life matter. What and how we learn, what our values are, who we are and what our relationships with God and others are like are the big issues that are the goals of the school’s education program.

Performing arts is a particular and uniquely approached strength of St Paul’s. The Director looks to the day when ‘the performing arts community will be a kind of lighthouse in western Sydney where expressive culture is studied, practised and critiqued under the refracted rays of God’s wisdom’.
