The best approach to studying IT is to figure out what you like best/do best and then get qualified to do it!
In broad terms, there are three main education and training options for entry into the IT industry: university degrees, TAFE courses and industry-based certification.
In practice, many people mix and match these options. For example, some people enrol in a thread at TAFE, do some core units, maybe get a Certificate III or IV, then find work. On the basis of their TAFE credits, they can transfer to university and find better work while they study or after graduation. Later, they may complete industry certifications in specialised subjects before moving up again.
This is a much more likely pattern of education and certification nowadays than the traditional route of enrolment in one stream at one institution.
