General nursing positions

There is a huge range of jobs in nursing. Nurses don’t just work in hospitals but also in aged care homes, in the community, people’s private homes, GP clinics, schools, universities, and even in planes. There are three types of nurses:

  • Registered nurses (have a university degree)
  • Enrolled nurses (have a TAFE qualification)
  • Assistant in nursing

Registered nurses are more qualified and have better rates of pay and career development than assistants in nursing and enrolled nurses. Assistants in nursing and enrolled nurses do mainly hands-on clinical work with patients, whereas registered nurses can progress into a number of different streams.
