Enrolled Nurse
What's it like to be an Enrolled Nurse?
An Enrolled Nurse (commonly referred to as an EN) provides nursing care under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) and as part of an interdisciplinary medical team. The supervision arrangements for ENs may vary between employers. ENs provide nursing support and comfort to patients within their scope of practice in a variety of health, aged care, welfare, and community settings.
An EN may administer medicines if they do not have a notation on their registration. This means they have completed the relevant medication administration education. Specific units of education apply for administering intravenous (IV) medicines.
ENs who have completed the relevant education and do not have a notation on their registration may be unofficially referred to as "Endorsed Enrolled Nurses" in job ads or position descriptions, however, this is not an official term used by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA).
