Software Developer

Use programming languages to write, modify and test software applications and web-based platforms.

"It suits those who enjoy thinking and creating things."

If you have strong computer skills and enjoy working as part of a team, then Software Development may be a good career choice for you.

Software Developers design, develop, test, maintain and document program code in accordance with business requirements, and system and technical specifications.

There are many areas of software development that you can choose to specialise in from Full Stack Development which involves working in both the back-end as well as the front-end of an application, to game development which involves creating, coding and programming video games. Other Software Developers specialise in different scripting languages to develop programs, applications and websites such as PHP, Java and JavaScript.

A Bachelor Degree or higher, or at least five years of relevant experience, or relevant vendor certification is usually needed.

Most Software Developers work full-time, so part-time work may be hard to find. The job outlook is expected to be very strong over the next five years.

Software Development is suited to people who have very strong computer skills and those who work well in a team.
