Great experience, great opportunity.

The good things

Overall I found the support to be at hand when ever I needed it. All the answers are in the manuals and through up-line support teams and managers.

The challenges

Having a strong and clear process for hiring staff could be improved as this is a vital part in the success of a business. Having a strong emphasis on gaining strong team members prior to opening and some training on rostering would be suggested.

Good experience overall.

The good things

Calendar Club is a good business. They care about doing the right thing and help to make store licensees successful. I was between jobs so doing this type of thing (i.e. running my own business) was a bit daunting but I did well and hit my sales and income budgets. Calendar Club staff were always supportive. So I was happy.

The challenges

Meeting the sales budget. However knowing that the sales budget is set as per previous year, it is motivating. If someone can meet that sales, we would be able to beat the budget.

Hard work but incredibly satisfying.

The good things

The opportunity to run your own business for a short period of time is fantastic. It is a great learning experience and the support from head office and the local state manager is excellent. Everything you need is provided and if you follow their systems and use their recommended sales techniques, the budgets are very achievable. Although there is plenty of competition from other retailers selling calendars, the Calendar Club range is hug and there are many regular customers who come back year after year because the stores are so well known.

The challenges

Being a retail operation the hours are incredibly long, especially with extended trading in the weeks before Christmas. If you're not used to it, standing in the store for hours can take a physical toll.
