I have been very happy working for Department of Justice, Tas.

The good things
The work at Tasmania Legal Aid is rewarding and the culture is great. Excellent pay, benefits and flexibility. Supportive managers.
The challenges
Dealing with clients' trauma can be challenging but trauma informed training and a supportive team helps.

Probation Officer

Tas

If they got rid of management it would be five stars

The good things
Other Probation Officers are really focused on helping. Generous and helpful. Really good to talk to and debrief You can basically set you own hours and the pay is good considering how little you 'have to' do
The challenges
Promotion to management is based on two things: -Proving dangerous level of incompetence -having no idea what the job is about Anyone who displays any ability or leadership is moved on or forced out by management. It's good because what's left is easy to get around but some days it's tough to come to work and look at who they put in charge
