All the stereotypes and clichés you would expect from a public service role.

The good things
There are a few good people at the staff and lower level management roles.
The challenges
Chaotic and bureaucratic environment. Very low levels of morale - the positive reviews here are mostly from the call taking and dispatch staff. Fixed term roles than might not be renewed.

ESTA is a fantastic place to work for a good variety of work opportunities, with high pay and good leave entitlements.

The good things
The shift work working 2 days 2 nights 4 off. Essentially means when you take annual leave into account you are working less than 50% of the year.
The challenges
Working Nightshift, however with good quality preparation it is an easy life balance.

Life changing for myself and family.

The good things
The work can be challenging but also very rewarding. The pay packet after including penalty rates (which isn't currently advertised very well) is great, especially after the first year or progressing from call-taker to dispatcher.
The challenges
Shift work isn't for everybody but most find a rhythm to get through.

Fantastic support from colleagues, challenging career with growth opportunities.

The good things
The people are amazing, providing wonderful support both in a professional sense and more on a personal level. The rotating roster allows for days off to be on weekends, or weekdays to be able to get life admin done, plus four days off allows for mini-breaks every rotation or the opportunity to pick up overtime if you're wanting to save some extra cash. Recent changes in management has resulted in more initiatives to increase staff levels, in particular for Ambulance, also a better approach and support for mental health and staff welfare.
The challenges
Shift work is the biggest challenge, adjusting to low levels of sleep, sleeping during the day missing out on events due to being rostered on. The nature and content of calls can also take it's toll if you aren't actively using strategies to manage your own mental wellbeing.

Rewarding work with great salary, benefits and career opportunities.

The good things
Many opportunities for career advancement with on the job training. Great salary/leave arrangements. Standard roster is 4 on, 4 off; permanent 4 day weekends are a definite bonus.
The challenges
Initial salary whilst training is low, but quickly increases. Shift work can be difficult to adjust to.

Work with great people, help the community and great job satisfaction.

The good things
ESTA is a great place to work and has continued to improve since I've been here. I enjoy my role as it is challenging, fast paced and varied. No call, hour or shift is ever the same. As a call taker you are the 'first' first responder, getting a caller what they need and also helping emergency services know what they are walking into. As a dispatcher you are the calm voice for members in some truly challenging situations. There is massive job satisfaction knowing you've helped the general public and kept members safe. The pay is great and working 4 on 4 off provides great work life balance with family.
The challenges
Shift work can definitely have its challenges as well as 12 hour shifts. It's a rotating roster but be prepared for weekend work and public holidays (although paid very well).

ESTA is a fantastic place of employment for those suited to the type of work one faces. The work is meaningful, the pay is great and there's significantly more leave available than standard 9-5 jobs. The shift work is great for me and my situation, so I love working there.

The good things
Great wages as a result of a range of shift penalties Shift work can allow for lots of leave when used well Supportive team environment Meaningful work that helps the community
The challenges
The nature of the subject matter simply isn't for everyone Shift work is also not for everyone and can mean missing out on things like Christmas, family celebrations etc at times A very feedback-heavy environment that can be a tough adjustment

ESTA is supportive and has many career oppurtunites for people wanting to give back to the community.

The good things
ESTA has caring and supportive staff. Team leaders are sure to check in with staff regularly and encourage regularly leave for a great work/life balance. Great opportunities for career development and overtime.
The challenges
It can be difficult to adjust to shift work. However, ESTA has full and part-time roles available with flexible shifts. Content of the emergency calls can be overwhelming. The people calling are generally having the worst day of their lives. ESTA have many options to assist staff such as peer support officers, mental health clinician visits and encourages regular leave.
