Exciting times ahead

The good things
Incredibly supportive national company that has recently transitioned its systems and processes so that staff can work efficiently and independently of their location on projects pertaining to their specific skillset. Continued diversity of projects and culture across all studios has had significant positive impact over the last 12 months and the future is bright for this enthusiastic and driven team.
The challenges
diversifying in a saturated market has its challenges but patience is starting to pay off

A company on the move

The good things
Hames Sharley is moving from first generation ownership and is actively addressing many historical issues ranging from discipline silos, quality of workplace, diversity and inclusion and pure passion for design. These areas are being transparently led by a management team that is open, communicative and generally leads by example. Positive change is ongoing and obvious. Its a great team and a very supportive team with help and advice always available.
The challenges
The challenges are only around the culture of a conservative and very solid company that is moving and growing to be increasingly agile and increasingly current amid a difficult market.

Great people, supportive team but expect to work very long hours.

The good things
Incredibly supportive team environment
The challenges
Design staff are ridiculously overworked and if you’re not design staff there is zero opportunity for career growth.

Love the HS family.

The good things
I really love people. Everyone at Hames Sharley is so passionate about what they do and we have a really diverse range of staff. We have great morning tea's, lunches and lots of social events. There's a real sense of family.
The challenges
Although change is happening, it can feel a little slow at times. The Board isn't very diverse at the moment, but I think that will continue to change over time.

Vibrant hub of enthusiastic professionals.

The good things
Diverse staff with great attitude, and a clear investment in people from the company overall. Lots of interesting work and projects.
The challenges
Transitioning from a small business to a large business has resulted in some teething issues - but nothing I haven't come across before.

Not a great experience

The good things
The daily fruit and sparkling mineral water on tap
The challenges
Culture is off, and many people don't enjoy working there and is lead by poor management that no one respects, so it gives an overall bad vibe.

A stable workplace that suffers from a lack of culture

The good things
Stability. Good people.
The challenges
Lack of support, training or career progression. Not particularly dynamic for an Architecture firm.

Flourishing

The good things
Admin & Management is helpful, people are very nice
The challenges
Some personalities are hard to deal with but usually are the ones to go. Work life balance could be better. For Interior Designers, tend to get over run by Architects in all disciplines and general understanding in our role is lacking.
