Meat Process Worker

Queensland, Australia
1 to 2 years in the role, current employee

Great. Still work here and it is coming up on 2 years in a few months.

The good things
Very stable job with a lot of variety in rosters and roles, day shift with 3 on 4 off, 4 on 3 off, 4 on 4 off, night shift with 5 days on 2 off. Diverse groups of people from everywhere around the world. Always extra shifts and/or overtime available, even in other areas around the facility to earn extra money.
The challenges
Some roles are very physical, does take 2 to 4 weeks to get your muscles into routine. Some roles are very minimal but repetitive movements so best to treat it like meditation as can be doing same task for long shifts.

corporate support

Hard work, good wages, little management support.

The good things
Some good changes happening at a global and local level for this company. A good time to get onboard for an interesting experience.
The challenges
Management systems are rather chaotic, managers lack expereince in managing people, few opprunties for training and development. Large amounts of turnover.

At the start it was good when I was only in one area starting at the same time but once I started learning other areas they would always get me to work other areas changing start and finish times by a lot.

The good things
Meet plenty of people from all walks of life.
The challenges
Constant changing of shifts without notice don't learn other areas unless you enjoy being treated like a ragdoll being moved around last minute.

Another day, another dollar

The good things
Some good people who make it enjoyable.
The challenges
Lack of communication, different people expecting the same thing done differently. everyone passing the blame for problems, everyone trying to claim credit for any little achievement. Top heavy management. Treated like a tiny cog in the machine.
