Disability Support Worker
Feb 2024
Gosford & Central Coast NSW
1 to 2 years in the role

Not the best place to start in the industry - too big for their boots. they do not put clients first - was told it's a business to make money

The good things
Being able to make a small difference in the lives of some lovely clients Despite management.
The challenges
Unsupported - heading to support clients without the supporting information - thrown in the deep end. - no support or supervisions whatsoever. I manager that was very reactive and selective with staff.

Manager

Broome WA 6725

I was traumatised by the experience. Worked very hard to do good things for clients and community but was battling the bureaucracy the entire time. National policies got in the way of common sense and localised needs and context. I would never work there again and would not recommend LWB as an employer.

The good things
The Clients Some of the team members Contributing to community
The challenges
National footprint with no local contexualisation Culture of wrongdoing being rewarded Far too top heavy - Too many chiefs

Community Support Worker
Jun 2023
Ipswich QLD 4305
Less than 1 year in the role, current employee

Disheartening

The good things
Supportive boss. Salary sacrifice. Not working night shift/weekends.
The challenges
Most roles are only casual. No career progression. Working alone in sometimes hostile environments. LOTS of driving! Clients not being at home for their shift-wasted time & resources. Software used to develop rosters appears outdated.

Great! Enjoyed working here.

The good things
I worked autonomously out in the community with clients. I had a really wonderful time. From my experience, management was really fantastic as well.
The challenges
Wherever challenges presented, I had a great Manager at head office who was very understanding, fair, and supportive.

When i first started i enjoyed working there but with so many changes it has really gone downhill and theres no flexibility from them but you have to be. Lost respect in the team leaders.

The good things
Worked with some great clients and met some lovely colleagues
The challenges
Communication, lack of. Leadership, constantly changing, unprofessional and not qualified for the role. Clients and staff not considered in big changes and made to feel like a number. Clients also feeling frustrated by lack of communication.
