I loved every second and would do it again because helping people and giving to the community is like none other.

The good things
I really enjoyed being a police officer, a life long dream. Helping people who cannot help themselves. Great roster. Good pay. A lot of career opportunities within the Police force.
The challenges
Can be detrimental to your mental health and physical health. High risk of injury. Shift work and public holidays. Keeping up to date with correspondence, court and outstanding matters.

A rewarding career that provides countless opportunity.

The good things
The role of Detective Sergeant has provided me opportunity to take on new challenges in a complex and diverse working space.
The challenges
As part of the role I have been involved in leading teams in operations that have had the potential to risk the safety of my team and the public. These situations have at time been highly stressful, however also very rewarding when the situation is resolved in line with the plain I developed.

I was warned that this was a difficult place to work but I had a really good experience

The good things
Easy place to get things done once you work out the culture - interesting place to work - all the processes are clear and people follow them
The challenges
Politics can be hard to understand - super conservative in some areas

Ruined my working life

The good things
That I'm not there anymore
The challenges
Terrible job, do yourself a favour and get a trade or University qualification and get a good career. When your injured you have to fight the department and insurance company. When you leave you are unemployable, no transferable skills.

One of the best Employers to work for

The good things
Working here changed my opinion on working in public sector. Management was fantastic, had the best team. Would love to work again on future opportunities.
The challenges
Being a tax payer funded, public sector organisation, lot of paper trail for simple things. For a couple minutes of actual work, you are looking at half day paper work and waiting on approvals for a week, if you are lucky. However, I understand the necessity of nuances with audit trails for every cent spent.
