Grateful for the genuine friendships I’ve made within the Veteran community, and proud to have given my best in serving & honouring every Veteran I engaged with.

The good things
The local Sub Branch volunteers you get to meet and work alongside are wonderful people. The Veterans are incredible people and make each day worthwhile. It’s the purpose that keeps you going.
The challenges
Covering very large geographical areas. Management is centralised to Brisbane which impacts a ability to have a genuine understanding of rural areas, people or distances. A greater focus needs to on the individual needs of our veterans, and how their location impacts opportunity, treatment options, housing and employment opportunities. Extremely challenging to find a work life balance and be able to fulfil the role to my expectations.

A very humane organisation, that strives to do well on multiple levels - feels great to be a part of it!

The good things
It feels amazing to be supporting such a great cause! Also, the onboarding process is amazing, I've had the best first day ever! You get to work with some very clever, knowledgeable and dedicated people too. Lots of perks, WHF flexibility and really nice offices close to the train station (and loads of cafes)!
The challenges
Too soon to tell, however people here seem open to feedback, ideas and want to learn and fail fast!

RSL Qld have, at this time, exceeded my expectations.

The good things
Started 4 weeks ago, day 1, had everything I required to commence the role. The onboarding process was seamless, from HR to IT. I have worked at many organisations and this is a first.
The challenges
At this time there are none.

RSL Queensland offers a supportive and challenging work environment that is dedicated to meeting the needs of Veterans and their families.

The good things
RSL Queensland offers roles with purpose that have direct impact on the health of communities across the state.
The challenges
Veterans and their families are coming under increased pressure due to the cost of living crisis in Australia. Requests for support are on the rise and RSL Queensland is on the front lines with our clients to take on these challenges.

I feel valued and invested in, they encourage questions and collaboration, and reward high performers.

The good things
RSL Queensland invests in their people. They provide training opportunities as well as stretch opportunities. Their values are aligned with its purpose, it is very caring. They love people asking questions as it helps to test / confirm their thinking and truly value people who are curious and bring thought diversity.
The challenges
The challenges are also opportunities. It has grown quickly in a couple of years and need people with a growth mindset and willingness to help the organisation try something new and work at it to get it right, even if it isn't perfect straight away. It is a marathon not a sprint.

Don’t waste your time at RSL Queensland.

The good things
99% of the people you deal with are polite, friendly and want to help. It’s a relaxed work environment. The salary is high, pay rises are provided and bonuses for achieving KPI’s. The company is wealthy and costs are not an issue. The technology systems are modern and reliable.
The challenges
Toxic co workers who enable each other. Siloed teams, lack of communication between teams, lack of direction, essential documentation and processes are missing. Poor project management, lack of training and only hearing of changes after it’s happened. Unfair WFH policy and a push to return to the office when it’s not required. Lots of talk from management but nothing ends up changing.

Disappointing... RSL over promised and under delivered. Business needs to make huge management changes before it will ever be the agile and innovative organisation it claims to be. In its current state it’s like trying to steer the Titanic...after it hit the iceberg! It will cost all your energy and you'll end up no where!

The good things
Opportunity to work from home. Free coffee, snacks and soft drink Good salary Majority of workforce (non-management) are pleasant and friendly Potential of the business Interesting work
The challenges
Management continuously stifle change and business improvement. There is a constant sense of 'making target isn't good enough' - certain departments are terrible at rewarding success and high performing staff Poor opportunity for career development - notoriously terrible at promoting within the organisation Poor staff recognition - there is definitely some insecure soles in the business trying to protect their high paying (not-for-profit) jobs
