Not a good place to work for career growth with a culture that is not good
The good things
1. Benefits - superannuation rate is high
2. Benefits - personal leave (annual leave, sick leave) is generous

1. Very hierarchical, bureaucratic, slow decision making and slow to change
2. Culture is not good and a very political environment

Woefully underfunded. Causalisation of academic workforce mean no career security or progression.

Intellectually rich environment
The challenges
Devoid of sufficient human resources. Individual academics responsible for hundreds of students.
Mostly short-term contracts or casuals with flat rate not commensurate with background and experience and not job security.

Like all organisations, there are personalities that thrive and others that merely survive. If you're hungry to be challenged and driven to move ahead in your career while learning from the best and brightest, the University is not for you. If you're looking for a place to hang out for eight hours a day with no stress (or even consequences) if you don't deliver, and a paycheck at the end of it, this is the place for you.
The good things
Very flexible (depending on your department) and good work/life balance.
The challenges
The university is 10 years behind corporate organisations so be prepared to deal with senior managers who struggle with change or updating processes to meet today's demands. Long-term staff are also very resistant to change. Don't accept a role here if you want to achieve anything. This is just a prestigious paycheck.
