Casual Consulting Support Staff

Company and Industry

Symbios Communications is a small Sydney-based consulting company with an expertise in satellite applications. The majority of our business relates to Earth observation, and to international collaboration between the various agencies and institutions therein. Our client list for 2018 includes: ESA (the European Space Agency), European Commission, NASA, NOAA (U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration), JAXA (Japanese Space Agency), Geoscience Australia, and CSIRO.

Job Description

We are looking for a consulting support staff member to provide ad hoc, sporadic, part-time support to various Symbios activities, with initial responsibilities including:

  • Support preparation, execution, and/or follow-up to meetings of international committees (e.g., Committee on Earth Observation Satellites, CEOS), including meeting record preparation.
  • Research and writing tasks in support of space sector and other studies.
  • Drafting and maintenance of online content and copy.
  • Updates to the ESA CEOS MIM database (database.eohandbook.com), including data entry and processing.

Responsibilities would grow to suit the applicant and/or experience, and as project work dictates.

Work would be from the individual's home base. The applicant would be expected to furnish their own computer and/or laptop, with required software to be coordinated.

Symbios current full-time staff all started with the company on an ad-hoc basis. Symbios staff undertake extensive international travel given the nature of the space industry.

Candidate Profile

Experience

This opportunity may suit individuals who have a technology background, or have an interest in the space industry. If you are flexible and looking for an initially slow engagement in a working relationship, this could be a good fit. This position would be ideal for someone looking for a supplementary role, e.g., alongside study. A background in the space sector is not essential, but would be an advantage.

Skills

  • Excellent English language communication, writing, and précis skills are essential.
  • Database and Python experience would be an advantage.
  • Strong time management and organisation, and the ability to work independently are crucial.

Compensation

Initially work would be ad hoc and intermittent, with payment by the hour based on detailed, self-maintained timesheets (a requirement of most clients). We would expect high efficiency in execution of tasks since these hours are billed to clients. Payment would be monthly in arrears of effort and based on submission of a timesheet and suitable invoice.

How to Apply

Expressions of interest should be sent by email to: recruit@symbios.space

Applications should include a full résumé detailing relevant experience, communication and writing skills, and IT capabilities. Applicants should indicate general circumstances and availability at present and anticipated in future, as well as their expectations for hourly rate of pay.
