HR and Recruitment Manager

Darwin Turf Club, located at Fannie Bay Racecourse, conducts weekly race meetings.  Home of the iconic Carlton Mid Darwin Cup Carnival, Darwin Turf Club not only operates as a renowned horse racing facility and training centre, but has developed its reputation as a premier destination for functions and events.

Reporting directly to the CEO, the position of Human Resources and Recruitment Manager is responsible for the day to day running of all staffing requirements for the Darwin Turf Club.  This is an exciting opportunity for someone to join an experienced team within the Racing & Events Industry. 

Key Responsibilites :

  • Management of Darwin Turf Club Human Resources Department  
  • Marketing strategies for all recruitment campaigns throughout the year including Darwin Cup Carnival
  • Maintenance of the Careers page of the Darwin Turf Club website  
  • Utilizing online tools and social media such as SEEK, LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter for recruitment and marketing campaigns
  • Creating Copy and Content for Print Media Advertising
  • Maintaining Industry contacts within the backpacker & tourism industry
  • Workforce Planning and Budget Control
  • Processing of timesheets and follow up for payroll errors as required
  • Development & maintenance of material Online Induction for New Employees, Existing Employees and Contractors
  • Procurement of Uniforms, badges, stationary  
  • WHS planning and delivery as required
  • Scheduling of internl training as required – Eg First Aid Training
  • Maintenance of internal registers such as RSA, First Aid, Forklift
  • Events and Function Management, including Ladies Day, Darwin Cup Day and other feature race days such as Anzac Day, Melbourne Cup Day
  • End to End Permanent & Casual Recruitment for Darwin Turf Club and Thoroughbred Racing NT
  • Conducting interviews, registrations and inductions
  • Building and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Performance Management of staff including meeting for performance and probation reviews
  • Management of Work Cover claims as required with the Club’s Broker and Insurer
  • Recruitment, rostering and Payroll of 700+ staff for Darwin Cup Carnival
  • Working with sponsors and clients for functions  
  • Checking Visas as required to ensure all staff have full working rights
  • Public speaking and presentations for recruitment campaigns

Essential Skills :

  • Experience with a high volume and high turnover casual workforce
  • Experience with rostering and workforce planning  
  • Highly organized and a forward planner
  • Able to work with senior management, a board and internal departments
  • Very flexible with working hours and able to work weekends as required for race days – no leave will be approved for this role June to mid August each year
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Must be very hands and not scared to get your hands dirty if required
  • Experience with group assessment centres
  • Full 360 degree recruitment experience – Advertising, shortlisting, interviews, reference checks, contract writing and induction of new staff
  • Able to remain calm under pressure, think on your feet and problem solve as issues arise  
  • Strong Computer Skills
  • Experience with budgets
  • Experience with Awards & Fair Work Australia

Desireable Skills :

  • Major Events Experience
  • Cert IV in Human Resources or equivalent

On Offer :

  • Start Date – mid to late  June 2018
  • 8 week handover during carnival with current HR Manager
  • 4 weeks annual leave + 1 weeks additional leave for carnival
  • Time in lieu days for weekend and public holiday work (Up to an additional 3-5 weeks per year)
