Public Relations Coordinator

About the business

The Australian Olympic Committee is a non-government, not-for-profit organisation, committed to the development of youth and sport. It is our responsibility to select, send and fund Australian Teams to the Olympic Games.

This is achieved by the support of our sponsors, contributions from the Australian Olympic Foundation (AOF), fundraising at corporate events and the backing of State and Territory Governments who donate to our Olympic Team Appeal.

About the role

This position is responsible for the development and implementation of public relations projects and programs designed to support all AOC activities. 

The position will develop communications plans for a range of key initiatives designed to promote Olympism broadly as well as a key focus on community engagement activities and will conduct media relations activity particularly around pre-Games and media operational Games-time activity.

Key accountabilities include: 

  • Identity pro-active tactical media opportunities to promote Olympic sports across a variety of news media, on-line platforms and other media
  • Develop excellent working relationships with news media organisations to deliver media campaigns which promote Olympism, Olympic sports and the AOC brand
  • Develop relationships with Olympians and National Federations to communicate and promote community engagement activity including the Olympic Education program, the Olympic Mentoring Program, Olympic Alumni, fundraising and AOC special events
  • Assist AOC sponsors and other partners to generate and promote content  
  • Will work with the Senior Media Manager to deliver Games-time media operations and manage ongoing media issues
  • Develop or oversee the development of community engagement including education resources themed around the Olympic Games and AOC special events.
  • To produce digital content for the AOC website, assist with the management of AOC social media channels and assist with the implementation of the digital media strategy.
  • Budget and project timeline management.

Skills and experience

  • Proven ability to write innovative media plans, media releases, develop questions and answers, fact sheets and other materials
  • Capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting demanding deadlines
  • Thorough understanding of news trends including threats and opportunities in a daily news cycle
  • Proven computer literacy, including ability to update websites
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to facilitate effective cooperation with athletes, national federations, sponsors, media and AOC departmental heads.
  • Strong customer service focus
  • Ability to shoot and edit video and stills pictures is desirable but not essential
  • Attention to detail
