Graduate Environmental Officer

THE PROJECT

Nexus Delivery is a joint venture between Acciona and Ferrovial Agroman, established to design and construct the TSRC. The $1.6 billion Toowoomba Second Range Crossing is a 41km heavy vehicle route jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments on an 80:20 funding split arrangement.

The route is designed to increase freight efficiency and significantly improve driver safety and community amenity by removing heavy vehicles from Toowoomba’s CBD.

 

THE ROLE

Nexus Delivery is currently seeking a Graduate Environmental Officer to join our team for a contract period of 4 - 6 months. Reporting to the Cultural Heritage and Environmental Manager, the successful candidate will provide support to assist in project delivery to ensure compliance with the environmental contractual and statutory obligations. The duties for this position will include but are not limited to:

  • Support the Cultural Heritage and Environmental Manager implement the Environmental Management Plan.
  • Guide the construction team on environmental practices, environmental controls and a wide range of strategic and compliance issues.
  • Assist in coordinating and acquiring all relevant licenses, permits and planning approvals.
  • Assist in conducting regular inspections of the workplace and recommend corrective measures, as required.
  • Assist in conducting environmental risk assessments and advise on corrective measures to minimise potential risks.
  • Assist in conducting environmental monitoring and checking compliance with specified water quality, noise level, vibration and dust level requirements.
  • Assist in coordinating wildlife rescues, relocation and management of fauna issues.
  • Assist in completing reports including monthly compliance reports.

 

THE PERSON

  • Relevant qualifications in Environmental Science and/or Engineering, or significant progress towards;
  • Previous experience working in a large civil construction environment is highly desirable;
  • Intermediate Microsoft office suite skills; and
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
