About the role

Youth on Track is an early intervention scheme for 10–17 year-olds that identifies and responds to young people at risk of long-term involvement in the criminal justice system.

In this position you will work with NSW Police, local schools, community groups, and other stakeholders to locate and engage young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their families.  This position includes outreach support work.  .

This position is available as either a full time position or part time position of 3 days a week.

Duties

  • Support and engage identified Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients to participate in Youth on Track Program
  • Develop and deliver intensive case management support to young people and their families addressing criminogenic risk and needs
  • Coordinate and provide a range of evidence based interventions
  • Identify and Participate in Aboriginal specific networks and Interagencies
  • Develop relationships with local Elders and Community Leaders
  • Identify potential improvements in service provision supporting Identified Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients

Qualifications & experience

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications (Cert IV or higher) in respective fields i.e. Youth Work, Mental Health, Justice, Counselling, Case Management, Drug and Alcohol, Social Work, Psychology, Criminology
  • At least two years’ demonstrated related experience
  • Knowledge of best practice criminogenic interventions related to behavioural and rehabilitation supports and the impact of substance use
  • knowledge of mental health issues
  • Effective communication skills, written, verbal and listening
  • Computer literacy, including the ability to use Microsoft Office
  • Current NSW Driver’s license (A pool car is available for outreach work)

This is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander identified position. Applications are sought from Indigenous Australians pursuant to Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).

As part of our Employment screening process you will be required to undertake a National criminal history check.  In addition, there is a requirement to possess a current Working with Children check or apply if you do not already hold one.
