Safe Operations Manager

THE PROJECT

Nexus Delivery is a joint venture between Acciona and Ferrovial Agroman, established to design and construct the TSRC. The $1.6 billion Toowoomba Second Range Crossing is a 41km heavy vehicle route jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments on an 80:20 funding split arrangement.

The route is designed to increase freight efficiency and significantly improve driver safety and community amenity by removing heavy vehicles from Toowoomba’s CBD.

THE ROLE

Nexus Delivery is currently seeking an experienced Safe Operations Manager to join our team. This position will provide advice, support and guidance to the wider project team. The successful candidate will assist the project in deploying best practical safety while delivering compliance with legislative requirements.

The duties of this position will include but are not limited to:

  • Provide health and safety support and direction to all employees and sub-contractors working on the project;
  • Assist in developing and implementing health and safety plans and strategies for Nexus Delivery;
  • Assist in providing weekly and monthly reporting of safety information;
  • Ensure all incidents are investigated thoroughly and recommend remedial actions;
  • Conduct regular subcontractor site safety checks;
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable health, safety and environmental legislation across the project;
  • Liaise with relevant authorities for the project and the project management team regarding health and safety issues; and
  • Facilitate and assist the project management team when conducting accident and incident investigations.

THE PERSON

  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience working in the civil infrastructure sector;
  • Expert knowledge of the relevant health and safety legislation;
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in health and safety including a Diploma of OHS/WHS, as a minimum;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to challenge undesirable safety behaviour in a constructive manner;
  • Demonstrated experience investigating safety incidents with experience in facilitating ICAM investigations; and
  • The ability to demonstrate pro-active engagement with all levels of project staff to drive and promote leadership and behavioural change on the project.
