Position Summary

Myriota’s service is comprised of loosely coupled, event driven services, fronted by web facing APIs. Compute workloads range from ephemeral FaaS to intensive, semi-persistent services on EC2 and EKS. Our culture is built around test, automation, more test and sleeping at night. If it's not implemented in code and pushed to git, it doesn’t exist.

As Site Reliability Engineer, you’re ensuring customers have the best possible service while enabling the team to move faster, in smaller steps, with greater confidence. You’re continuously improving and validating our ability to recover from inevitable failures, both large and small. You’re building out and refining the capability to spot failures, identify the root cause and respond, and then looking for ways to automate that. You’re all about writing software to remove barriers between dev and ops.

  • Improve operational practices across the team including security, deployment, backup and recovery

  • Define and implement tooling ranging from instrumentation libraries to event handlers to disaster recovery

  • Define, collect and communicate metrics related to operational health and critical incidents

  • Facilitate incident retrospectives to identify cause, learnings and remediation

  • Carve out a chunk of every day to automate all the things

Things you’ve done

  • Developed a deep understanding of cloud infrastructure on AWS

  • Written lots of software to automate the things

  • Thought about security and understood that stronger fences aren’t the answer

  • Learned that things fail, all the time, developing strategies to manage failure

  • Obtained a degree in systems engineering, computer science, or similar

Things you might do

  • Develop libraries and tools in Python, Go or your language of choice

  • Continuously improve deployment processes and tools

  • Coach and mentor the team to develop services to operate at scale

  • Continue to Improve system wide observability and auditability

  • Develop, verify and automate backup and recovery operations

  • Choose when to buy and when to build new services

  • Troubleshoot application, network and database performance issues
