Casual Control Room Operators

The role initiates considered and appropriate responses to alarm activations that are received from a security systems in schools and provide advice in regard to a range of other incidents that may be reported by stakeholders. This position involves shift work; day shift, night shift and afternoon shift 24 hours per day, 7 days per week including public and school holidays. The successful candidate will either have previous control room experience or come from a Customer Service, Call Centre background.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Respond promptly and accurately in assessing alarm activations and calls for assistance to  determine the most appropriate response, ensuring those risk exposures are minimised
  • Provide quality and informed advice to schools in relation to incidents in order to minimise the impact of the event and to assist with the schools’ return to normal operations
  • Deliver high quality customer service while developing and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Prepare professional, well written reports in regard to incidents that have occurred
  • Use a computerised database to record clear and accurate details of incidents that have occurred and the responses and actions that have been taken
  • Work effectively within a small team to meet stakeholder expectations where workloads may be unpredictable 

Selection Criteria:

  • Demonstrable ability to assess and respond to alarm activations using SIMS alarm monitoring software, using sound keyboard skills
  • Proven capacity to provide appropriate, high quality, timely, accurate support and advice to a range of stakeholders, including Central Monitoring Operator, from within a call centre or customer service environment
  • Proven problem solving skills, able to make confident decisions to resolve a wide range of issues
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with emphasis on quality customer service
  • Ability to deal with confidential and sensitive information with tact and discretion
  • Demonstrated experience in supporting and building relationships with customers and service providers
  • Demonstrable competency with the Microsoft Office suite of applications and other Monitoring/Reporting systems (SIMS 3, SmartNet).
