The Role

The opportunity has arisen for a self-driven, highly motivated and enthusiastic Graduate Chemist to join our fast paced West Footscray laboratory, working on fuels, petrochemicals, oils and coal. The successful candidate will have recently completed a degree in Chemistry or similar.

The laboratory is located in Melbourne's inner west and is unique in its capabilities and services offered. The role falls within the Inorganics group, will require a few days of work per week and requires a dedicated person, strong in team work and support to achieve set targets. The selected candidate will be trained in inorganic chemistry.

As Inorganic Chemist, you will be responsible for sample preparation and analysis of a wide range of matrices, from pharmaceutical samples to industrial. Experience in wet chemistry is advantageous and experience in monograph testing and instrumentation (ICP and AA) will be beneficial to you.

The Responsibilities 

The position, reporting to the Lab Manager, will be expected to adhere to laboratory safety procedures, maintain laboratory standards and work within our guidance.

The duties will include, but not be limited to:

  • Routine and non-routine laboratory preparation, testing and analysis of petroleum, chemicals, LPG, oils and related product samples as per ASTM, IP and AS methods
  • Testing in accordance with the laboratory's ISO 17025 accreditation
  • Working predominately Monday to Friday with regular out of hours & weekend work to cover bulk liquid operations in and around Victoria
  • General housekeeping duties, maintenance and quality matters, including calibration of equipment and documentation review.

Selection criteria

The ideal candidates will posses the following skills/qualifications

  • Qualifications in chemistry
  • Experience in the petroleum/petrochemical industry is advantageous however not essential.
  • Willingness to learn and develop as the business grows
  • Strong work ethic and the ability to be flexible
  • Participate in the development and achievement of team goals and workload requirements
  • A solid understanding of MS Office suite, internet and email
  • Excellent communications skills
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Excellent organisational skills and self motivation
  • Ability to work unsupervised
  • Sensitivity in dealing with confidential information
  • The candidate must be able to provide evidence of their right to work in Australia
