This well regarded organisation that supports people with intellectual disabilities is seeking an non executive director.
This is a voluntary role, where the successful candidate will attend monthly board meetings, last Wednesday of each month, excluding December.
There is the basic requirement of Directors: to prepare for, attend and contribute to Board meetings. Subcommittees are currently Finance and Property Committees. Occasional working groups are formed for specific purposes.
The new director would join the Finance Committee which meets by phone the Wednesday afternoon one week prior to each Board meeting 3-4pm. They usually have an annual retreat or workshop to address current strategic matters (February).
Directors are encouraged to participate in the social life of the organisation (not every event!), are expected to be ambassadors for the organisation, and support fundraising either directly or indirectly – introducing new supporters or connections is particularly valuable. Directors must first apply for company membership, and are also required to be cleared through a Working With Children Check as a volunteer. They also need to uphold organisation’s values and principles.
This role would suit an insightful, purposeful and independent individual who wants to make a significant contribution and shares our vision of providing an excellent education for all. Strong finance and accounting background is highly preferred.
