Principal Civil Engineer

The Melbourne transport team has a variety of immediate secured work and future opportunities in the pipeline including North Western Program Alliance work Level Crossing Removal packages, Western Roads Upgrade, Inland Rail, future M80 Ring Road Upgrades, Melbourne Airport Rail Link, and other large road and rail and projects. 

The opportunity
KBR is involved with the delivery of a range of city-shaping infrastructure projects. Concurrently we pursue new opportunities that will bring great benefits to Victoria and the broader Australian economy. In support of our growth strategy, our Melbourne team is seeking the services of a principal civil engineer with technical design delivery experience to share our journey.  
 
What you will be involved with
Variety is the key component of this role. Whilst primarily focused on our Civil Roads area and ‘Design and Construct’ (D&C) projects you could be involved in other parts of the business and work sharing with other states. As a technical leader, we believe that you will be able to turn your skills and experience to a number of different areas of Civil Engineering. 

 
Key Responsibilities

  • Form and nurture industry/market relationships to maximise repeat business from existing clients
  • Provide technical expertise, mentoring and support to the civil/road engineering team.
  • Supervise project staff and review deliverables to ensure compliance with technical and quality assurance standards
  • Work independently to complete the planning, design and execution of projects that meet or exceed client expectations
  • Assist and support the development of new business opportunities, including responsibility for preparation of project proposals.
  • Work with contractors providing technical input into major bids
  • Work with joint venture (JV) partners and D&C contractors delivering quality technical/engineering outcomes for projects
  • Mentoring and developing less experienced engineers 

Prerequisites

  • Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) or equivalent
  • A minimum of 12-15 years relevant experience in delivering major infrastructure road projects (Design Manager role/s inclusive).
  • CPEng desirable
  • Demonstrated understanding of VicRoads’ requirements and a track record delivering to their standards
  • Working knowledge of commercial arrangements and relationships
  • Strong practical knowledge of and commitment to health and safety
