Tourism Manager

Salary negotiable depending on experience

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced tourism professional to join Council’s workforce. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the Tourism Manager is responsible for the development and management of tourism initiatives, marketing and events within the Quilpie Shire. The role will also ensure the professional and efficient operation of the Quilpie Visitor Information Centre, Museum and Gallery in collaboration with government agencies, businesses and the community. This senior role is responsible for fostering a positive workplace culture, promoting workforce development and maximising performance through effective individual and team management.

The successful applicant will be expected to exhibit and promote Council’s corporate values, and this will be considered as part of the selection process.

Mandatory Requirements

  • Minimum four (4) years’ experience in a related role;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, facilitation and negotiation skills;
  • Able to demonstrate a high level of stakeholder cooperation, influence, and customer service;
  • Good staff and volunteer management and professional development skills;
  • Experience in developing and facilitating strategies and plans;
  • Demonstrated ability to co-ordinate and manage events and marketing programs;
  • Experience in events organisation, promotion and public relations; and
  • Proficient in the use of a wide range of PC based software.

Desirable Requirements

  • Relevant experience in the operation and management of a Visitor Information Centre and Museum;
  • Formal qualifications in a relevant field;
  • Current holder of Suitability Card – Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian;
  • Extensive knowledge of places of interest within the region;
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of procedures and practices relevant to Local Government;
  • Sound knowledge of Arts practices and cultural development for rural and remote areas; and
  • An understanding of the roles and responsibilities of regional tourism organisations such as Outback Queensland Tourism Authority and Tourism Queensland.
