Chief Executive Officer, ARTRAGE & FRINGE WORLD

About ARTRAGE and FRINGE WORLD Festival
Established in 1983, ARTRAGE is one of the longest running, largest and most successful not-for-profit cultural organisations in Perth, Western Australia. Launching the “FRINGE WORLD Festival” in 2011, the ARTRAGE team has grown the festival to become the third largest festival in the world in terms of tickets sold.  It is recognised as having transformed the cultural life of Perth and brought vibrancy to its summer festival season.

Alongside the annual FRINGE WORLD Festival, ARTRAGE produces a range of year-round and seasonal programs. These include Rooftop Movies; one of Perth’s most popular outdoor cinemas, which runs across summer each year and a boutique winter cinema season that is the first stage of a long-term plan to develop a Creative Precinct and thriving cultural hub in coming years.

About the opportunity
After 17 years leading ARTRAGE, Marcus Canning, the outgoing CEO, is retiring to focus on the development of a commercial entertainment complex that is scheduled to go live in September 2019.  Marcus leaves the organisation in a strong financial position with healthy reserves, long-term funding, secure sponsorship partners and a fantastic team in place who are excited to work with a new CEO.

The new CEO will take on responsibility for an organisation with a proud history and a track record of success in the Perth arts and culture community. The role is supported by experienced executives and board members who have dedicated significant portions of their lives to ARTRAGE and FRINGE WORLD.

ARTRAGE and FRINGE WORLD are cemented as major institutions in Perth and the CEO is tasked with capitalising on that background while setting the long-term vision with the executive and board and ensuring the ongoing success of the team and the organisation.

The role will be responsible for maintaining the values and reputation of the organisation while building a long-term strategy and ensuring the delivery of a vibrant festival and calendar of activities. The CEO leads a team of people who are rightfully proud of being core ongoing members of the organisation they have created.

About you
  • Ability to identify and evaluate strategic opportunities and threats for an organisation in the lean and competitive events/arts/culture/festival sector
  • Demonstrated drive to build artistic events that give artists and arts sector professions/trades the opportunity to successfully pursue their chosen field within a given community
  • Leadership and management experience running an organisation or a division of a larger business in a complex environment
  • Financial management skills with responsibility for the financial performance of a multi-million dollar per annum organisation
  • Entrepreneurial, Creative and innovative
“We are casting the recruitment net right across the world as we believe leading Artrage and the FRINGE WORLD Festival with this fantastic team in this fantastic city will be attractive to the world’s best and brightest. We encourage local cultural leaders who can see themselves making a future with the Fringe to also apply.”
