Harmony, a gold mining and exploration company, conducts its activities in South Africa, one of the world's best-known gold mining regions, and in Papua New Guinea, one of the world's premier new gold-copper regions. We are currently growing a significant gold-copper portfolio in Papua New Guinea.

In Papua New Guinea, Harmony owns Hidden Valley Mine, an open-pit gold and silver mine and an exploration portfolio which focuses principally on highly prospective areas in the country. Harmony additionally has a 50% interest in the Morobe Mining Joint Venture, which includes the Golpu project and extensive exploration tenements in the Morobe Province of Papua New Guinea.

Senior Plant Metallurgist

We currently have an opportunity for a driven and motivated Senior Plant Metallurgist for Harmony's gold and silver mine, Hidden Valley, located in the Morobe Province, Papua New Guinea.
  
Reporting to the Metallurgical Superintendent, the successful incumbent will identify, scope, execute and manage processing projects to improve the metallurgical and operational performance of the processing plant whilst maintaining safety behaviour and cost commitment consistent with the Harmony values.

As the Senior Plant Metallurgist, your responsibilities will include:  
  • Providing leadership to the metallurgical project team to ensure all projects are effectively managed.
  • Direct technical input into all metallurgical focused projects to ensure project success and timely completion.
  • Maintain a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the metallurgical project group and wider processing team.
  • Ensure accurate and timely progress and cost reporting on projects.
  • Develop budgets and forecasts for metallurgical / processing projects.
  • Develop long and medium term project plans to prioritise tasks and allocate resources.
  • Coaching and mentoring of key personnel to ensure team development and sustainability of project management capability is retained on site.
Ideally, the successful incumbent will have:
  • A minimum of 4 years’ experience within mining holding a Bachelor in Mineral Processing or a relevant discipline.
  • High level planning, analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Well-developed written and oral communication skills with an appreciation for PNG culture.  
Communication and cultural awareness is key along with strong interpersonal and relationship building skills as well as an appreciation for operating in a developing country.

This role is offered on a 18/10 days FIFO roster. Successful applicants must be able to meet the requirements for a PNG Work Permit application including a Federal Police Clearance.
