ABOUT THE POSITION

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced purchasing professional to join our Supply team in a key leadership role. Reporting directly to the Supply Chain Manager and based at our Head Office in Salisbury South, the Purchasing Manager is responsible for the end to end purchasing operation, ensuring materials are available to meet production needs, at the right cost of goods whilst keeping inventory at targeted levels. Your previous experience in supplier negotiations, contract negotiations and pricing will be critical in this role, along with your passion for always looking to secure a better deal, whilst never compromising the quality of the ingredients. With two direct reports, you will manage a range of suppliers, both domestic and international and will work closely with the broader team to ensure that all inventory and demand plans are met whilst driving continuous improvement activities within the team.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Efficient purchasing of raw materials, consumables and other ancillary items 
  • Developing and maintaining a strong Purchasing department
  • Providing a high level of communication between suppliers and stakeholders
  • Ensuring the effective management and control of raw material/ingredient inventory
  • Minimising raw material stock on hand whilst ensuring material availability to production
  • Ensuring on time delivery of items to required quality standards
  • Investigating and resolving anomalies with suppliers
  • Data, information and record management ensuring traceability of raw materials
  • Challenging quality and pricing variables by negotiating and finalising pricing with suppliers and reviewing key suppliers annually
  • Implement improvement initiatives for the purchasing function
  • Investigating and actioning all price variances, increases and decreases and submit standard cost adjustments
  • Participate in New Product Development (NPD) meetings

To succeed in this position you will have the following experience and attributes:

  • Demonstrated experience in a similar role is essential. Purchasing experience in a food or beverage industry preferred
  • Qualification in procurement, supply chain or operations management
  • Knowledge of purchasing software preferably MFG-Pro , SAP or equivalent
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office suite of products and database applications
  • Be able to work autonomously and as a team
  • Display resilience and solid negotiation and influencing skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet targets and deadlines within a busy and demanding project environment.
