Graduate Engineer - Geographic Information Systems & Spatial Systems

About the role

Based in Brisbane, the Graduate Engineer - GIS & Spatial Systems will:

  • Undertake requirements definition, design, integration, verification planning and analysis on GIS and Spatial techologies supporting Unmanned Aerial Systems.
  • Undertake trouble-shooting, analysis and development of solutions or updates for new and existing products.
  • Apply critical systems thinking and problem solving in a dynamic team environment.

 

Accountabilities

  • Perform requirements analysis and definition in response to both internal and external customer needs.
  • Develop product specifications and scope documents for internal and/or external design and procurement.
  • Perform trade studies, develop system interface definitions, and prepare verification and acceptance plans for product development and enhancement.
  • Design, write, test, and debug software application solutions.
  • Plan and perform system integration, including test and evaluation.
  • Design and construction of prototype and production components for validation and testing.
  • Manage and manipulate large GIS datasets to extract relevant data, or prepare data for customer delivery.
  • Support development of product support solutions including test and support equipment, facilities, training and support documentation.
  • Analyse and resolve customer support issues for existing fielded products.
  • Assist with the development of technical elements of business cases and proposals for internal and external customers.
  • Develop reports, mapping and data products and producing high-quality cartographic output.

 

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Degree in Information Technology, Software Engineering or Geographical/Spatial Sciences.
  • Experience with software development in at-least one of the following C#, Python, C++, Javascript.
  • Knowledge and understanding of GIS & Spatial Systems design principles, data and tools.
  • Familiarisation with GIS software and datasets.
  • Sound Knowledge of Geodetics, Geographic Systems and Transformations, Geographic Information Management and Spatial Data Standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to ensure successful outcomes which meet project deliverables and adhere to critical deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively while working to schedule commitments.
  • Sound systematic and logical problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated strong work ethic and the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Personal alignment with Insitu Values.

Also desirable:

  • Exposure to GIS applications and knowledge in Mining Operations, Oil and Gas Industries, Construction Industry or Electrical / Civil Infrastructure.
  • Experience in the processing of RTK/PPK GPS and INS data.
  • Experience in processing of Photogrammetry data with Pix4D, SimActive Correlator 3D or similar.
  • Experience in the processing, analysis and visualisation of LiDAR data and pointclouds.
  • Experience in the processing of Radar, Magnetic, SAR, or Hyperspectral Imaging Data.
  • Experience with Reality Capture and BIM applications.
  • Experience with ESRI toolset, MapInfo, QGIS, Global Mapper, FME, or similar
  • Design, implementation and administration of spatial databases.
