The City of Ryde is a progressive local Council possessing natural landscapes, major commercial & residential developments, and areas of historical significance, all centrally located only 12 kilometres from Sydney.

Right now, we have an exciting opportunity for an Environment Protection & Development Compliance Officer to join our Environment, Health & Building Department at North Ryde. You will be responsible for investigating building and related land use and development control matters for compliance with legislation and approved usage. You will also be responsible for following up complaints regarding compliance issues, issue Penalty Infringement Notices as appropriate and manage prosecutions in the Local Court and/or Land & Environment Court.

Key requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications in Town Planning, Environmental Health and Building Surveying, Law or similar
  • Working knowledge of legislation such as the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act, Local Government Act and Protection of the Environment Operations Act
  • Technically astute with experience in the development application approval and /or development control processes
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills with ability to undertake a range of projects and tasks and prioritise work to meet deadlines and performance targets
  • High level of interpersonal communication with proven conflict resolution skills
  • Sound written communication skills
  • Current drivers' licence

Your salary will commence from $83,236.05 p.a (plus Superannuation) subject to your experience and qualifications. Conditions include flexible working hours with the option of a rostered day off each 3rd week, modern offices at North Ryde, and on-going training and career development.

Please be advised that this position is on a rotating roster between Monday to Saturday and you will be required to work a Saturday shift every 3 weeks.
