General Manager Engineering and Development

  • Reporting to the CEO
  • Responsible for the full lifecycle of port infrastructure
  • Mackay based role

North Queensland Bulk Ports handles half of all Queensland trade through our four ports and takes great care to provide safe, sustainable and competitive seaport services.

The General Manager Engineering and Development provides accountability, leadership and functional oversight to engineering, infrastructure management and development activities which account for approximately half of NQBP’s annual expenditure.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer you will be expected to lead and implement strategic technical, procurement and investment decisions as well as contribute to enterprise wide strategic development within a highly experienced leadership team whilst upholding the safe, efficient standards expected of a critical State-owned asset intensive transport enterprise.

Key Accountabilities

  • Develop, implement and periodically review a 5-year functional plan aligned to the strategic priorities of the organisation and accounted for in annual forecasts.
  • Provide leadership to a dispersed group of engineering, maintenance services and project management staff to ensure alignment with respect to capability, performance and the adoption of a client centric culture.
  • Champion innovative, process and systems improvements at functional and organisation level.
  • Participate in business case creation, defence and evaluation at a variety of levels.
  • Provide professional input into the development and adoption of sound corporate governance practices and relevant policy and procedures.
  • Provide calm, timely leadership during crisis and or disaster recovery efforts.
  • Develop and maintain stakeholder relationships to promote the strategic agenda of NQBP.

To be considered you will have

• Tertiary qualification in engineering

• Demonstrable experience in design, development and maintenance of port infrastructure ideally including: dredging, reclamation, port engineering and marine maintenance.

• Well-developed technical and commercial leadership capability

• Ability to foster teamwork and collaboration across all functions of an asset intensive transport business.

• Experience managing a multi-discipline team responsible for State owned asset classes

• Ability to hold and maintain a Maritime Security Identification Card
