Who is Standards Australia?
We are an independent not-for-profit organisation, recognised by the Australian Government as the peak non-government Standards body. We develop internationally aligned Australian Standards in the national interest and work closely with government, industry, consumer and stakeholder groups.

We are a team of 130+ employees based in a great Sydney CBD location close to various forms of public transport. We have a collaborative, friendly and professional working environment where we encourage self-growth and career development.

We have a new opportunity to join our Standards Development team as a Technical Writer, on a permanent full-time basis.

About the Role
The Technical Writer is responsible for supporting the development of Standards and other types of documents across a wide range of subject areas. As a Technical Writer, you are not expected to be an expert in any particular field, but it is essential that you are able to work closely with stakeholders to determine the clearest, and most logical way to present technical content for greatest reader
comprehension.

As a Technical Writer you will:

  • Develop and author content for draft Australian Standards across all project stages and in consultation with technical experts.
  • Be accountable for the working draft.
  • Interpret verbal and written technical content to draft in a way that is appropriate for the intended audience.
  • Address feedback provided by our Standards Australia Publishing Services team.
  • Lead the Drafting team in the review and resolution of Public Comments.
  • Collaborate with Committee members, facilitate discussions and manage technical issues for resolution via consensus.
  • Collaborate with our Project Management and Publishing Services team to escalate unresolved issues and develop high quality documents.

Minimum education/professional requirements

  • University degree, or other relevant qualification.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in technical writing.

What else are we looking for?
As the ideal candidate, you will have a strong attention to detail with the ability to draft detailed technical documents and communicate information clearly and concisely through the most effective medium. You will work collaboratively with your stakeholders to ensure you develop high quality work and deliver projects within the agreed scope and timeframe.

Working for Standards Australia
Integrity, Courage, Accountability, Respect and Excellence form the basis of all we do. We measure our success not only on the outcomes but on the path we took to get there. We offer a flexible and positive environment where individual and team efforts are recognised and rewarded. The company is committed to a workplace which supports equal employment opportunities.

What now?
If you meet the above criteria, please submit your CV and cover letter outlining why you are the best fit for this role.  Eligible applicants must be a Permanent Resident or have legal rights to work in Australia.

Please note that due to a high volume of applications, only shortlisted applicants will be contacted.
