Project Engineer

Veolia Australia & New Zealand (Veolia) is the only global company to provide a full range of environmental services in the fields of water solutions, waste management solutions and energy solutions.

With the global expertise gained from serving the environment for more than 150 years, Veolia operates in more than 40 countries around the world, with well over one hundred sites and approximately 4000 employees in Australia.

Veolia, being at the centre of this century’s biggest challenges, offers opportunities to make a difference, for your career and also for the environment and our community. In Australia and New Zealand, Veolia works with heavy industry, retail and commercial businesses, governments and communities to deliver innovative and sustainable solutions that are needed today, with the vision required for tomorrow.

We are currently seeking a Project Engineer to join our Technical Projects team.  This role will report to the Technical Projects Manager and will focus on planning and delivery of water treatment and site remediation projects on Veolia client sites.

The role will be required to:

·         Provide process engineering support with installation of water treatment plants on client sites, including plant optimisation, training of operators, trouble shooting and preparation of management plans.

·         Provide project engineering support & advice, including project planning, design, estimating, procurement, commissioning and operation of equipment.

·         Deliver assigned projects within budget and to agreed schedule, including safe completion of all phases.

·         Monitor cost aspects of the project within direct control and forecast final costs, identify trends and take action to avoid cost overruns.

·         Ensure all activities are conducted and managed in accordance with agreed SHEQ practices, procedures and legislation (including state and federal environmental regulations).

Success in this role is dependent on your ability to apply strong technical skills and knowledge as well as exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.  To be successful you will have:

·         An appropriate professional engineering qualification (Chemical or Environmental is preferred), with the eligibility to join Engineers Australia.

·         Appropriate experience and knowledge of engineering principles relating to the planning, design and commissioning of water treatment systems (e.g. waste water treatment plants, ground water remediation).

·         Knowledge of EPA regulations relating to ground water, contaminated soil and hazardous waste.

·         Experience working in the water treatment or site remediation industry will be highly regarded.

·         Thorough analytical, conceptual and problem solving skills to develop innovative solutions to complex issues.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to apply theoretical knowledge to practical applications.  The role will be a mix of office and field based, managing projects from concept stage through to delivery.

The role will be based in Melbourne, with travel to regional and interstate locations required.
