The Role

As part of the Community Facilities team, this role leads and manages the Community Facilities Planning sub unit by applying specialisation in community and recreational facility planning and development.  You will provide leadership to and be accountable for the work performance of the team, and apply specialist (technical) proficiencies to design and implement work practices and manage work flows safely and efficiently to ensure the City’s corporate business objectives are achieved to meet current and anticipated changing organisational needs.

 

The role communicates with a range of customers and stakeholders including consultants and contractors; government departments and agencies; other local governments; the business community; vendors and suppliers; facility users, special interest groups; members of the public; and City Leaders and employees.

 

You will be required to balance the people management and technical elements of the role, along with the strategic and operational delivery. You will be responsible for effective capital budget planning along with using your project management skills to ensure innovation in community facility and public open space planning that meets community needs.

 

Skills and Experience

The successful appointee must be adaptable and experienced, and must also thrive working in a very busy and change driven organisation.   As such, applicants must be able to demonstrate through their CV and covering letter that they meet the following capabilities:

 

  • Tertiary qualification in relevant discipline such as Sport and Recreation Management, Business or a related discipline,
  • Significant experience in a similar role within a large and complex organisation,
  • Experience in stakeholder management and working with special interest groups,
  • Knowledge of business planning, resource planning and budget management,
  • Extensive knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations,
  • Extensive knowledge of the sport and recreation industry,
  • Advanced people management skills to direct, manage, evaluate and motivate staff,
  • Advanced communication, problem-solving, organisational, negotiation and influencing, and research and analysis skills.

 

Successful applicants may be required to work occasional weekends and evenings which form part of the ordinary hours of work for this position.

 

Applicants may be required to undergo a medical assessment to determine their fitness to carry out the duties of this position.

 

All employees and prospective employees of the City of Wanneroo are required to declare any secondary employment and private activities to ensure that any conflict of interests may be appropriately managed.
