About the business and the role
We are an Accounting Practice that, in addition to our usual taxation related services, offers bookkeeping to our clients. We use Xero as our main accounting and tax platform.
Your role is to attend to the bookkeeping for a number of our business clients. In addition, you will assist the Accountant with the reconciliation of Balance Sheet accounts for our other non bookkeeping clients as we do their year end tax work.
We are only small so we run a relaxed, warm and friendly workplace. There is currently one other part time bookkeeper in the Practice and we are looking to expand this service.
Job tasks and responsibilities
Your duties will include,
- use of Xero to code clients books.
- Balance sheet reconciliations
- Month end journals as required
- Payroll processing
- Preparation of IAS's/BAS, ATO reporting
- General client related administrative duties
Assist the accountant with the bookkeeping and accounting work related to the annual tax assignment we perform for clients.
As a small practice, everyone assists with any administrative tasks that need doing - this may be greeting a client, answering the phone, booking an appointment etc. We aim to be a multi skilled practice so we can offer work flexibility to our staff knowing essential tasks can be covered in their absence.
Should the successful candidate wish, the role can expand over time to a career in Accounting, in particular the move towards tax return preparation, CPA status etc.
Skills and experience
The ideal candidate has solid bookkeeping knowledge and previous customer service experience.
We are a 'Xero practice' so exposure to Xero would be advantageous but not essential.
We can teach many of the skills required for this position. What we cannot teach is the underlying personality traits that will help you excel in this job. These include being friendly, being organised, loving to improve systems, having a customer service mentality and a 'can do' approach.
Confidentiality of client information is also absolutely critical.
