Harvest Project Supervisors- Atherton Tablelands

Costa Berries FNQ is currently seeking Harvest Project Supervisors to join our growing berry operation on the Atherton Tablelands. This is a great opportunity for emerging supervisors to develop their leadership skills, and experienced supervisors to broaden their work experience.

Project Supervisor - Atherton Tablelands

Costa is Australia's leading grower, packer and marketer of premium quality fresh fruit and vegetables. We nuture our people, cultivate our growing sites and invest in ongoing research and development.

All of the products we grow and sell are fresh, nutritious, unprocessed and grown on our very own farms of those of our partner growers.

Costas is the country's leading berry producer with multiple sites across Australia, growing blueberries, raspberries, strawberries and blackberries. We are the only Australian berry grower to achieve year round production of blueberries and we grow approximately 45% of Australia's total blueberry supply.

The Costa Berry Category is at the forefront of genetic growing and innovation. We export to some of the most demanding markets in the world, so food safety is paramount. In all that we grow, we are committed to sustainable production and growing.

People are at the heart of the Costa business and across our regions we are a major employer with more than 6,000 workers during our peak seasons.

About the Role

The Project Supervisor role is a casual, seasonal position with potential for ongoing employment for the right candidates, subject to role availability. This role requires you to take a leading role in managing a crew of blueberry pickers to ensure daily harvesting is completed to the required standards. You are required to attend all FNQ sites as outlined by the picking schedule. Open and clear communication is required with the Field Harvest Coordinator/Field Harvest Manager to ensure all harvest requirements, quality assurance and people concerns are being managed, efficiencies maximised and KPI's met.

You may be required to fulfil other roles in support of whole farm management. Costa invites applicants from farming backgrounds, as well as other industries with transferable skills sets.

Responsibilities include:

  • Monitor chariot and picker hygiene levels to ensure they meet requirements set out by the Quality Assurance Supervisor, and action improvements if needed.
  • Monitor the health and hygiene facilities, for example drinking water, cups, hand wash, toilets, etc, and liaise with the Field Harvest Manager and Truck Drivers if anything needs replacing.
  • Monitor chariot stock levels and liaise with the Field Harvest Coordinator and Truck Drivers if stock needs replenishing
  • Monitor pickers to ensure they are following instructions and are picking to the required standard.
  • Create a culture of support within the crew, acknowledging success, driving performance and showing appreciation for hard work.
  • On a daily basis, identify crew members that are under performing and provide coaching for performance improvement. Ongoing performance issues to be communicated with the Field Harvest Manager; feedback tickets to be completed on a fortnightly basis
  • Lead by example - show a consistent work ethic, respect, enthusiasm for the task, and support for all crew members.
  • Complete harvest paperwork as directed by the Field Harvest Coordinator
  • Training and coaching
  • Ensure that all new pickers are appropriately trained and monitored, and have the required skills and knowledge to perform their role
  • Ensure all data is correctly entered into the HMS (Harvest Management System), troubleshooting problems when needed and liaising with the Field Harvest Manager regarding HMS issues
  • Other reasonable duties, as directed

About You

To be successful in this role you will have demonstrated experience in a similar role as well as:

  • Be self-motivated and enjoy working as part of a team
  • Have excellent communication skills
