GC Chemist - QC Laboratory

  • Join a well-established organisation in their QC laboratory
  • Initial 12-month tenure is highly likely to become permanent
  • Excellent opportunity for an experienced chromatographer

CLIENT

Based in Melbourne’s South Eastern suburbs and with 60 years of experience in product development and manufacturing, our client sets the standard in reliability and quality. Partnering with their clients’ businesses, they ensure the security of supply through high-quality manufacturing and on-time delivery. Given they do not own or market any brands, the company's focus is on contract manufacturing.

Operating over two sites in excess of 18 acres and an annual output of 70 million units, our client specialises in the contract manufacture of Therapeutics (i.e., Prescription, OTC, & Complementary medicines), Medical Devices, and Personal Care products.

ROLE

This GC Chemist role presents a superb career opportunity that will commence within the QC laboratory of this well known and trusted company. This initial 12-month contract affords full-time work with all associated entitlements such as annual leave, personal leave etc. Our client offers great working conditions, a decent work-life balance, and excellent opportunities for professional development.

Whilst we are ideally looking for analytical chemists with about five years' experience in gas chromatography, we will consider someone with less hands-on experience—especially when the applicant has other relevant skills in separation science.

Success in this role shall see the GC Chemist being deemed sufficiently upskilled to work in the company's R&D laboratory.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The GC Chemist is responsible for performing routine testing of raw materials and intermediate products for existing contract manufacturing projects, as well as developing methods for new ones.

Some of the responsibilities associated with this role include:

  • Performing testing of raw materials and intermediate products according to well-documented and validated analytical methods
  • Ensuring all testing is performed in accordance with the relevant  TGA requirements for that product
  • Maintain adequate records to provide an audit trail that underpins the analytical results of the QC laboratory

SELECTION CRITERIA

To be considered for this excellent opportunity you must meet the following criteria:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree with a major in Chemistry or an equivalent qualification
  • Several years of experience performing routine analyses using a gas chromatograph
  • Some understanding of basic troubleshooting and how to undertake basic preventive maintenance procedures would be ideal
  • A proven capability to develop new GC methods would be a distinct advantage
  • Familiarity with Agilent 6890 GC and use of Waters Empower software shall be highly regarded
  • Knowledge of  HPLC/UPLC will also be seen as rather beneficial
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are considered an absolute must-have
  • An understanding of GLP/GMP requirements, particularly in a TGA context, is invaluable
