Project Accountant - Fixed Term 15 Month Contract

We are Australia’s largest privately owned mining, construction and maintenance services company, working across the resources, energy and infrastructure sectors. We are delivering an existing contract at our Whyalla operations in regional South Australia.  Our scope includes ore excavation, drill and blast, haulage operations, plant feed and train loading.

BGC Contracting is currently seeking an experienced Project Accountant to join our Whyalla based team on Fixed Term Contract for 15 months to cover Maternity Leave.

Reporting to our Operations Superintendent, you will be responsible for being the multiple site interface for all finance and accounting functions including, Accounting, Cost Management, Budgeting and Forecasting and Business Analysis for the project. The Project Account will be heavily involved in day-to-day analysis and strategy of the operation including driving focus on creating value for both BGC and our clients.

You will be responsible for but not limited to:

  • Lead and improve cost management system including cost code structure and guidance for the project;
  • Cost and progress reporting;
  • Lead month-end duties including monthly cost review and journals; monthly progress claim and contract valuation;
  • Compilation of monthly balance sheets reconciliations for mining projects;
  • Management of petty cash;
  • Assistance with cost and revenue forecasting;
  • Assistance with the establishment and maintenance of subcontracts in cost management system;
  • Supervision of office admin;
  • Establishes KPI’s for direct reports aligned with the Mining Strategy and ensures these are cascaded throughout the function;
  • Provides clear leadership and direction and promotes and fosters a team culture consistent with the BGC Contracting CHARTER and Values;
  • Provides performance feedback to direct reports and completes annual Performance Appraisals;
  • Ensure procurement procedures and systems are adhered to across the Site(s);
  • Provides coaching and mentoring for direct reports and builds the capability of business unit personnel;
  • Assist with commercial and compliance requirements as necessary; and
  • Administration assistance for management team as required; Lead and improve cost management system including cost code structure and guidance for the project;

 

What we’re looking for:

  • Previous experience in same or similar preferably in contracting and resource industry;
  • Tertiary qualifications in accounting;
  • Desired: CPA/CA qualification;
  • Knowledge of financial and accounting standards and practices;
  • Knowledge of MS Office and database expert;
  • Knowledge of JD Edwards and Corvu;
  • Manage and proactively participate in project teams;
  • Valid and Current Drivers Licence; and
  • Commitment of our BGC Contracting Charter, Values and Brand Pillars
