An exciting opportunity to join one of Australia's leading renewable energy developers and become part of a dynamic team during the growth of its asset management business for large scale renewable energy projects across Australia.

Role

CWP Renewables are seeking an experienced and proficient Safety Manager, this position will be based in Canberra as part of the Project Management Office, but will involve travel to other CWP offices, project sites and operational facilities on a regular basis. This is a key role in driving a culture of excellence within CWP and its contractors, with regular engagement with the Senior Management Group to ensure safety is a primary focus. The Safety Manager role will involve developing and maintaining the safety management system and undertaking regular audits and training to ensure compliance against regulatory standards are met. This role requires an experienced Safety Manager with knowledge of safety legislation across all jurisdictions as well as experience in working on construction and operational sites. The role will require someone with excellent communication skills and the ability to analyse data and provide recommendations to Senior Management. It is essential that you have these skills at a mature level development in order to be proficient in this role.

The candidate must be able to demonstrate experience commensurate with the following requirements:

  • Lead, promote and actively engage with all staff to drive the CWP safety first culture.
  • Develop WHS strategies that align with CWP business values and ensure that CWP meets its obligations in effectively managing health and safety risks, including the maintenance of the WHS legal and compliance register
  • Work across all CWP business sites and functional areas to implement all aspects of the Safety Management System.
  • Analyse and report on CWP risks and safety performance, supporting effective and informed decision making by the Senior Management Group.
  • Develop and undertake a detailed audit program for CWP offices, construction sites and operational sites to ensure safety standards are being met or exceeded.
  • Lead the investigation of all accidents, near misses and occupational injuries, ensuring actions are recorded and appropriate measures put in place.
  • Own and regularly update the CWP safety risk register
  • Provide input into the tender evaluation and development of contracts to ensure safety requirements are captured.
  • Chair the CWP safety committee and attend other safety meetings as required.

  • Develop safety management systems, ensuring they are implemented appropriately.
  • Drafting of safety procedures and forms to ISO and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify deviations from processes and correct these deviations.
  • Solve problems and make effective decisions in a timely manner.
  • Function as a part of a team or independently as required, with minimal supervision and limited instruction.
  • Drive improvements in the safety performance of CWP.
  • Utilise; the office 365 suite, SharePoint, Aconex and other relevant software.
  • Dashboard reporting on safety statistics as part of the monthly reporting cycle, along with further detailed safety reports as required.

Essential Experience

The candidate must be able to demonstrate experience commensurate with the following requirements:

  • Strong Leadership qualities;
  • Demonstrated understanding of safety legislation;
  • Ability to teach, mentor and motivate others;
  • Proven track record in reporting and analysis of safety data;
  • Ability to draft formal reports in a professional and timely manner;
  • Proven ability in providing clear and concise advice across all levels of the business as well as senior management;
  • Proficient in MS word and excel;

Desirable Skills & Experience

Skills and/or experience that address the following topics will be considered highly desirable:

  • Knowledge or experience with solar and wind farm construction and operations;
  • Implementing & managing business wide safety management systems;
  • In-depth knowledge of Power BI or other live reporting tools.
  • Experience providing training to others;
  • Experience with root cause analysis tools.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Health and Safety or equivalent;
  • 10-15 years of health and safety experience within construction or operational sites;
  • Unrestricted driving licence.

Desirable Qualifications

Desirable qualifications may include some of the following:

  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
