Junior Lawyer - 12 Month Contract

Racing Victoria is one of Australia’s leading sporting organisations and the independent governing body of thoroughbred racing in Victoria. Racing Victoria exists to develop, promote and grow the sport of thoroughbred racing in Victoria and to safeguard its integrity.

We are looking for a suitably qualified candidate to join our small in-house legal team in the role of Junior Lawyer for a 12 month fixed term role. 

 The Opportunity

This is an exciting and rare opportunity for a qualified legal professional to join our team. This role is focused on providing support to our legal team on a broad range of matters, including, but not limited to: general legal process and procedures, litigation, commercial law, privacy law and intellectual property law.

This role will act as the subject matter expert regarding privacy law and the Freedom of Information Act.

Our legal team are a small group of experienced, passionate and professional individuals who are committed to supporting Racing Victoria being the best it can be. If you are a self-motivated professional who enjoys working on diverse and exciting matters, engaging directly with key stakeholders and relishes the opportunity further develop your legal experience, this role is for you.

About you

Candidates must have:

  • tertiary qualification in law or legal studies and/or demonstrable experience in a similar role;
  • highly developed clear and concise written and oral communication skills;
  • demonstrated capability to effectively communicate and interact with external and internal clients and other persons in the racing industry;
  • highly organised and with time management skills, including the ability to prioritise according to demands and established document management skills;
  • attention to detail and accuracy in the preparation of documents and the conduct of research;
  • competent research and document review skills and reporting in a timely and accurate manner;
  • ability to work within a team environment and to willingly support members of the legal team;
  • demonstrated ability to exercise discretion and observe confidentiality in relation to confidential legal matters or other sensitive matters;
  • demonstrated commitment to the principles of customer service; and
  • an understanding of, an interest in, or experience in the operations of the racing industry or another sport.
