Accountant - Financial Reporting

Our mission is to provide accurate and timely financial services to the University community, ensuring effective decision support, financial and management reporting, compliance with legislative requirements and internal control, and transaction processing. The University operates a centralised financial service provision through a Hub model comprising of Colleges, Schools, Institutes and Divisional Units (Budget Centres).

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager, Financial Reporting, you will provide high level assistance and take a lead role in assisting in the management of the University’s tax obligations. You will also be responsible for the University’s external reporting requirements such as the annual Higher Education Research Data Collection (HERDC), quarterly reporting to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), and financial reporting to funders of research projects.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Provide high level financial advice and make recommendations in relation to financial accounting, taxation and reporting issues.
  • Assist with managing the University’s tax obligations.
  • Keep up to date with changes in relevant taxation legislation and regulations
  • Provide advice and assistance to the Financial Research Support team with financial reporting to funders of research projects.
  • Provide general accounting and financial management support to Financial Services staff.

Your Application

To be successful in the role, your application will need to demonstrate;

  • Completion of a relevant Degree with relevant work experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Proven ability and experience in understanding, interpreting and implementing taxation legislation (specifically FBT, GST and Payroll tax).
  • Demonstrated financial management skills and experience in contemporary financial practices, including the ability to prepare financial reports and briefing papers for a variety of audiences.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively liaise with all levels within the University, and the ability to work in a flexible and collaborative manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to work to tight time frames often with conflicting deadlines, prioritise tasks, identify and resolve problems.

Remuneration

Appointment to this role will be at HEO 6 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $98,133 comprising base salary within the range of $76,147 to $83,874 plus 17% superannuation.
