In Class Teacher Aide - Diverse Learning Needs

Full Time Contract to Friday 6 December 2019

The position holds the possibility of being offered as Continuing status from 2020.

St Rita's College Ltd, in the Brisbane suburb of Clayfield, is a leading Catholic secondary school for girls.

St Rita's College was among the schools listed as being one of the country's most innovative in a 2018 report published by The Educator magazine. The College was one of 40 schools chosen from the education elite across the country who are collectively shaping the future of education.

Applications are invited for the full time Term time Contract position of Diverse Learning Needs In Class Teacher Aide. The position works within a team of three staff who support teachers to enhance outcomes for students requiring extension and those with diagnosed learning difficulties.

This is an 'in class' position, requiring the successful applicant to work with students individually or in small groups within the classroom setting. The provision of pastoral and academic support that encourages development of skills and independence for students is required. Well developed research skills through the use of technology is also required.

The position liaises with student families with regard to action plans and outcomes and provides feedback to teaching staff to assist with student evaluation processes.  

Key skills and selection criteria include:

  • Certificate Level in Educational Support or equivalent qualifications;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of diverse learning needs programs for secondary school students;
  • Demonstrated experience in providing In Class Teacher-Aide support to a Secondary school diverse learning needs program;
  • Effective communication and high level of interpersonal skills;
  • High level organisational and planning skills;
  • Ability to show initiative and work as a team member;
  • Experience in providing literacy, numeracy and IT support to secondary school students may be an advantage.
