Solicitor – Port Lincoln

In this critical and rewarding role, you will be in a position to make a difference.

Family Violence Legal Service Aboriginal Corporation (SA) (FVLSAC) is funded by, the Australian Government to provide legal and support services to victims/survivors of family violence within Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander communities. FVLSAC offers free, accessible, safe and culturally appropriate services to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities from offices in Port Augusta, Port Lincoln and Ceduna.

We currently have an opportunity for a Solicitor to join our team and assist with provision of outreach services. As a Solicitor you will be providing legal representation, advice, education and client support services.

In this role, you will be responsible for the provision of legal advice and representation to FVLSAC clients in accordance with the Organisation's operational framework.  You will be one of a team of likeminded lawyers. As part of the Organisation's holistic service model, you with our client support staff, will also be involved in the delivery of programs that aim to enhance the safety and wellbeing of communities in our catchment area.

The role offers a rewarding balance of legal experience, the opportunity to develop superior client management skills and interaction with the local community. More than a traditional law role, you will enjoy the novelty of lawyering in regional areas with a client base with complex needs.

The successful applicant will be admitted to the Supreme Court of South Australia, and may be a relatively inexperienced practitioner with a restricted practicing certificate or a more experienced practitioner with an unrestricted practicing certificate and experience in family law, child protection and victims of crime.

Critical to your success in this role will be your desire to be part of a team and work collaboratively with local and regional staff and your ability to assist in developing relationships with local communities and other service providers. Capacity to deliver education programs in, with and for the community is also essential.

You must be able to demonstrate an understanding of legal and social issues affecting Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people and demonstrate your ability to empathise and communicate effectively with Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people.

Imperative in this role will be your style, approach and ability to engage with a range of communities and your willingness to undertake regular travel between offices.
