Today, Merlo Coffee is proud to be one of Australia’s leading independently owned and operated Coffee Roasters. In addition to supplying the public and our own Merlo stores with freshly roasted coffee every day, we also supply to more than 1,500 cafes and restaurants throughout Australia.

With 14 Merlo Coffee stores around Queensland serving fresh roasted coffee daily, we also made the move to Melbourne’s historic Queen Victoria Market in 2016.

About the role

Reporting to the Head of Retail, the Retail Operations Manager, will be an inspirational leader committed to driving sales, developing team members and increasing operational efficiency. You will support and lead Merlo Coffee’s Store Managers, providing them with guidance on best practice methods for ensuring the success of Merlo Coffee’s retail channel. A key function of the Retail Operations Manager is to ensure that the highest level of staff culture, customer service and product quality are consistent throughout all retail stores.

No day will be the same as you drive performance across all stores, focusing on:

  • Leading, managing, coaching and supporting direct reports
  • Ensuring exceptional levels of Quality Coffee and Customer Service is upheld to the highest standard across all retail stores
  • Maintaining optimal store operation standards through audit processes, building on strategic vision and facilitating the implementation of new initiatives
  • Compile daily, weekly and monthly end reporting for key stakeholders
  • Analyse store KPI reports monthly, report on key themes, highlight opportunities, and formulate strategies for business growth
  • Identifying opportunities to minimise operational costs and support sales growth
  • Develop and enhance store consumable control plans and look for opportunities to improve processes
  • Ensure compliance with Work Health and Safety and Council requirements
  • Managing operational communications to store teams and associated change management for operational processes
  • Develop standardised communication documents and associated check lists across retail
  • Manage incentives structures and bonus programs. Analyse areas for opportunity based on results.
  • Embed core Learning & Development programs within retail team

About you

You will be an inspirational leader, with a real passion for people, team development and of course our customers. You have the demonstrated ability to drive and achieve retail sales targets across a multisite environment; and possess a strong commercial acumen. You are experienced in the cultivation and enhancement of the customer experience in a retail environment.

You will be able to adapt quickly to changing priorities and work at a fast pace, with the passion and enthusiasm to be part of something bigger….

To be successful in this exciting role, you will have:

  • Demonstrated experience at an advanced level in all areas of Area / Regional Management;
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to work with people at all levels;
  • A result focused attitude with a customer centric approach;
  • A commitment to coaching and developing your team through a “hands on” leadership style;
  • Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities;
  • Exceptional attention-to-detail, organisational and planning skills;
  • An outgoing personality coupled with a genuine love of quality coffee and customer service;
  • A valid Open drivers’ licence;
  • Ability to travel occasionally if required;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and TimeTarget is highly regarded.
