Switchboard Operator

Northern Beaches Hospital (NBH) provides opportunities for the local clinical and non-clinical workforce and ensures our patients healthcare needs are met now and into the future. NBH is a fully licensed private hospital providing services to both public and private in and out patients by exceptional nurses, doctors, allied and support staff.

NBH has opportunities available for switchboard operator who are responsible for the general day to day operations of the hospital switchboard and telecommunications services to ensure patients, visitors, internal and external staff are provided with an efficient communications system.

As a hospital switchboard operator you play an important and critical role, responsible for accurate and efficient response to all calls made to and from the NBH switchboard and emergency calls. This is a 24/7 service.

We are seeking a proactive individuals to join our extraordinary team. Full time, part time and casual roles available.
You will make an impact by:
  • answering incoming and outgoing calls and
  • delivering assistance in a polite, clear, well-spoken and calm manner in all circumstances
  • contacting staff and emergency groups for code calls e.g. cardiac arrest and trauma groups
  • performing routine clerical duties as required by the Manager
  • operating hospital switchboard; and DECT and/or smart phone systems
  • providing an effective, efficient, timely and courteous service to patients, visitors, the public and staff who interact with the switchboard.
You will bring to our high-performing team:
  • Previous experience in the operation of contemporary switchboards and high volume call environment
  • Demonstrated experience in responding to a range of customer enquiries and determining the appropriate response in a complex work environment
  • Exceptional communication and customer service skills
  • Experience in managing DECT and Smart Phone systems will be well regarded
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and within a team
  • ability to stay calm in high volume environment
  • Flexible to work rotating shifts - early/late shifts & weekend work.
