Family Referral Worker

An exciting opportunity has become available to work for Barnardos, one of Australia’s leading children’s charities. Barnardos Australia builds relationships between children, young people, their families and the community. They advocate for children and young people and contribute to community knowledge about their issue.

The Role
Barnardos are looking for a permanent  full time, Family Referral Worker for the Illawarra Family Referral Service. This position is based 4 days in Moss Vale and 1 day in Nowra. Travel to Warrawong office will be required from time to time.
  
The Family Referral Service is an integral part of Barnardos South Coast Children’s Family Centre’s comprehensive range of child and family services. These services range from preventative and early intervention programs to intensive family support and crisis foster care.
  
Reporting to the Program Manager, the Family Referral Worker will assist in the intake, referral and outreach responsibilities of a Family Referral Worker (FRW), and ensure a high standard of service is provided to families, children and young people in need using Barnardos assessment tools, making sure clients are linked to appropriate services and followed up to confirm engagement.

The Candidate
The successful Family Referral Worker will ideally have:
  • Tertiary qualification in social work, social welfare, psychology or related disciplines
  • A strong understanding of child protection issues with capacity to identify when the level of risk faced by a child or young person requires statutory child protection intervention (i.e. a report to Community Services' Helpline)
  • A sound knowledge of service responses and programs that can positively impact on a child’s development, and those that can assist in promoting change in behaviour and support parenting capacity
  • Demonstrated experience in assessing and working with families where there are complex needs (e.g. mental health, domestic violence, drug/alcohol misuse, child protection)
  • Ability to actively engage families that may be unwilling to receive services (with attributes such as the ability to demonstrate empathy, openness and honesty).

Additional info
To be considered for roles with Barnardos you will need to have (or be willing to have conducted) a National Police Clearance and current Working with Children check Clearance (or APP number).
  
You must also have a full valid NSW drivers license, with the ability to travel in accordance with position responsibilities.

Salary
$69 744 - $80 660 base (including FBT packaging) + benefits + Super. Motor Vehicle packaging optional.
