About the role:

Based at our Warragul and Leongatha Campuses, an exciting opportunity exists for a suitably qualified and experienced individual to join the Koorie team in the role of Koorie Liaison Officer.

The role of the Koorie Liaison Officer is to:

  • Build strong networking relationships across internal and external stakeholders as per the Wurreker Strategy to increase accessibility and to support the Koorie community participate in education, while ensuring that the Institute delivers in a culturally sensitive environment.
  • Foster and maintain relationships with all sectors of the Koorie community and Koorie organisations to facilitate the identification of training and educational needs and undertake promotional activities to recruit students to TAFE Gippsland.
  • Organise and provide support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) students involved in programs delivered by the Institute and make recommendations to the Program Manager concerning the provision of access to these programs.
  • Liaise with relevant statutory bodies, Government departments, schools and other local community organisations to ensure that the Institute gains maximum awareness and support of its programs.
  • Research, develop and implement activities and approaches that support the objectives of the Wurreker strategy and contribute to monitoring, evaluating and reporting on these activities.
  • Develop, promote, deliver and evaluate cultural awareness training to internal clients of the Institute.

Mandatory requirements:

  • Current Drivers Licence.
  • A valid Working with Children Check (WWC) Assessment Notice and/or WWC Card. (Further information and how to apply for a WWC can be obtained from www.justice.vic.gov.au/workingwithchildren/).
  • Current (less than 5 years old) satisfactory National Police Check.
  • Strong and proven links to with the indigenous community in the Gippsland area;
  • Significant recent experience, understanding and involvement in Koorie and/or mainstream education;
  • A six month probationary period applies to this position.
