  • Take your career in exciting, rewarding directions

There’s a certain feeling you get from working at Monash University. It’s the feeling that you’re a part of something special. Something significant. So if you’re looking for the next chapter in your career, it’s here. You’ll be given the opportunity to challenge yourself, build on your skills, and make a significant contribution to a workplace that’s filled with energetic and inspiring people. Talent thrives here – and so do truly satisfying careers.

The Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President (Enterprise) provides University-wide strategic support for industry partnerships, commercialisation, industry engagement and innovation, to provide a focus for achievement of the ‘Enterprise’ goal, one of the four key goals of Focus Monash.

Monash Food Innovation (MFI) co-creates solutions with a multidisciplinary approach to solving the global challenges impacting the future of food. MFI provides a gateway to Monash University’s broader research, education capabilities and global partner networks, across the food and agribusiness value chain. As a team of catalysts, we bring subject matter experts from industry and academia together creating a platform to launch collaborative research projects from translation to launch in market.

The Opportunity

The Business Development Manager (Research) will support MFI in the delivery of the area’s strategy and operations and is responsible for driving business development relating to food related research.

This includes working with colleagues across the University to identify and develop collaborative research grant and industry engagement opportunities between external agencies, both public and private, and the University in food and related disciplines. The position will also assist Enterprise colleagues with the commercialisation of food related intellectual property generated within the University.

To be successful in the role, you will be a dynamic and driven Business Development Manager with exceptional communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to build and manage relationships with a broad range of stakeholders and work well within cross-functional teams. You will be a strong net-worker and have links with industry, research bodies, Government authorities, and other relevant organisations.

Analytical and conceptual thinking is paramount in this role, along with exceptional problem solving, project management and a “roll up the sleeves” attitude. You will have extensive experience in business development, including planning, commercial and contractual negotiations, financial modelling and management and be comfortable working in a fast paced, ever changing environment.

You will also ideally have:

  • Postgraduate qualifications in a food related discipline and extensive, relevant experience; or
  • extensive management experience and proven management expertise in a food related discipline; or
  • an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training

This is a fantastic opportunity to work with some of the best minds in food and agribusiness. If you are passionate about making a difference we want to hear from you.

At Monash University, we are committed to being a Child Safe organisation. Some positions at the University will require the incumbent to hold a valid Working with Children Check.

Your application must address the selection criteria. Please refer to "How to apply for Monash Jobs".
